Daniel Perry started his animation career, like many others, with love for games and film. After graduating from school for Advanced Character Animation he landed his first animation job, for Firaxis Games, working on Sid Meier’s Civilization V. At Fireaxis he was given the opportunity to completely redesign how the ‘leaders’ were animated. This new direction for the title still holds today, in the latest installments of the Civilization franchise. Later, he moved onto Zenimax Online Studios, where he worked on The Elder Scrolls Online.

Dan will teach you the workflows for the fundamentals of animation. He will start you off with animating a bouncing ball to get a grasp of the physics of a basic animation. Next up will be animating a pendulum, which teaches the concepts of overlapping action. You will learn about follow through, successive breaking of joints, drag, lead, and follow. As you progress through the course, Dan will combine these theories to animate your very first basic character, a bouncing ball with a tail.

By the end of the workshop you'll:

  • Have learned the fundamentals of animation.
  • Animated your very first basic character.
  • Learned about overlapping action, and it's importance to animation.
  • Have exaggerated and changed reality to make an animation work.
  • Created and animated a basic character going through an obstacle course.
