Learn The Entire Pipeline

Ivan Lopez has been creating characters for games and feature films for more than 4 years and currently works as a freelance Character Artist. Some of his most recent works are; Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, Men in Black: International, Godzilla King of the Monsters

Ivan will teach you the workflows for character creation and will guide you through all stages. You will learn all the steps in the pipeline and understand how to prepare your character for final presentation in Unreal Engine.

 

By the end of the workshop you'll:

  • Have produced a portfolio-ready character.
  • Sculpt the face and body in ZBrush
  • Create clothing in Marvelous Designer
  • Create low resolution topology and UVs
  • Textured clothing and realistic skin in Substance Painter
  • Create a hair in Maya's Xgen 
  • Create materials and light your character in Unreal Engine.

SPRINT 1 


Blocking Out The Character

68 minutes

In this sprint, Ivan Lopez gathers his reference and begins blocking in the character by sculpting the face and body.

Creating The Clothing In Marvelous Designer

65 minutes

In the next sprint, Ivan creates the majority of the clothing for his character in Marvelous Designer.

Creating Secondary & Tertiary Details

66 minutes

In the third sprint, Ivan adds primary, secondary, and tertiary details. Then he demonstrates hand sculpting pores and details vs using the Texturing.XYZ workflow.

Creating The Low Resolution, UVs & Texturing

In the fourth sprint, Ivan creates the low resolution, the UVs and paints his textures in Substance Painter.

Creating Hair in Maya's XGen

In the fifth sprint, Ivan demonstrates how to use Maya's Xgen to create realistic hair via Interactive Grooming.
