What You’ll Learn

Learn the art of figurative digital sculpting with one of today's leading artists, Mariano Steiner. Mariano has worked in the CG industry for over a decade. In this course he is going to take you behind the curtain and teach you how to develop your skills for production art but your creative capacity to develop concepts into amazingly realized art.

This Imaginative Sculpting course will consist of ten modules of pre-recorded demonstrations and reviews. You'll learn core sculpting skills and be part of a community of artists all working to achieve next level quality in their work.

Most importantly, you'll learn how to train your artistic eye and express something through your work, while creating a portfolio ready character that will impress.

In this course, students will create characters from scratch using ZSpheres and Manequinn. The course will cover anatomy blocking, muscle sculpting, establishing gesture, flow and dynamics, setting poses. The course will help students develop learning techniques to become better sculptors and will focus on skills that will directly impact their future work in games, movies, toys.

By the end of the workshop you'll:

  • Know the importance of references and what to look for.
  • Have trained your artistic eye to develop your characters one element at a time.
  •  Know how to free your mind to sculpt anything from anything.
  • Have sculpted and brought to life your own character.

Week 3

Anatomy 1.2 Dissections

Lower body sculpture. Muscles. Drawing over photos exercise.

Week 4

Anatomy 1.4 Dissections

Torso Sculpture. Muscles. Drawing over photos exercise

Week 5

Anatomy 1.6 Dissections

Arms and hands sculpture. Muscles. Drawing over photos exercise.

Week 6

Anatomy 1.8 Dissections

Head sculpture. Muscles. Drawing over photos exercise.

Week 7

Anatomy 2.0

Full body sculpture in pose using Manequinn. Gesture, flow, and dynamics. Set points of interest

Week 8

Find Meaning

Sculpt head, hands, and feet in pose. Bring expression to life. Sculpt anything from anything.

Weeks 9 & 10

 

Capstone Project

Express something through your work. Find your "why", train  your artistic eye, free your mind. Final thoughts and review.

Mariano is a Senior Character Artist / Digital Sculptor working for the toys, games and cinematic industries.

With over 10 years of experience, he collaborated with companies like Rockstar Games, Crytek, McFarlane Toys, Prime1, Plastic Wax and many others.
